It’s Time for a Check-in: How to Get Yourself Motivated When You’re Burnt Out
We recently teamed up with Black Female Founders to collaborate on a workshop about founder burnout and self-care. I think it’s something, though, that all of us can relate to: we start off with a great idea about something enriching to add to our lives, but suddenly we find ourselves unmotivated about continuing down the path. What gives?! Well, you’ll have to visit us in New York City to find out, but it did get me thinking about dealing with low moods and feeling like our lives are running out of fuel.
While I was talking with my therapist, she recommended asking myself a set of questions, kind of like a small self-check-in, to evaluate whether or not I’m meeting some basic needs before I start tackling my next big project. How can you be your best self if you’re not even fulfilling your “base” self?
So, I’m going to share a few of those questions with you! Whenever you’re feeling unmotivated, but frustrated that you don’t have the energy to keep up with the amazing things you’re doing, just ask yourself:
If you’ve answered “no” to any of these, then you know what you have to do. Fulfilling these basic needs, from nutrition to touching (we crave physical connection), will help you get back on track and give you the boost you need.
